Eye Surgery - Screening

A few weeks ago, I had the sudden idea to finally get my eyes fixed with laser surgery. I had actually been thinking of doing it a long time ago, but now my funds were enough to cover the operation.

I went online and did a little research on LASIK, any effects and side effects and find out how much it cost. Got in touch with a good doctor from St. Luke’s, and made an appointment to meet him for a screening last Saturday, May 22nd.

After a some tests where my eyes were subjected to all sorts of curious machines, the doctor pronounced me a good candidate for either PRK or LASIK. But because I had dry eyes (which I wasn’t even aware of), and unusually large pupils, he recommended that I take PRK instead. LASIK would probably give my eyes glare, so we opted for PRK instead. It was also the cheaper option. My operation was scheduled on May 28th.

Lasik and PRK have several differences, which can be found in detail here. PRK has a longer healing period due to the kind of procedure done to it, but at least I won’t have a flap in my eye that never completely closes. And like I said, it is also the cheaper option.

St. Luke’s, like other eye centers, offers transport services for the screening and surgery, which we availed of. And what a nice transport it was. We were picked up by a Toyota Previa with very nice leather captain seats. The drivers are very prompt, maybe even a little prompt. We were picked up at least an hour or so before the appointed time.

To be continued.

Thank You

Currently listening to two songs. Or rather, two versions of one song.

The first is Led Zeppelin’s original, Thank You.

Second is Chris Cornell’s version of the same song, recorded live in Stockholm.

The lyrics are great:

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.

When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.

Kind woman, I give you my all, Kind woman, nothing more.

Little drops of rain whisper of the pain, tears of loves lost in the days gone by.

My love is strong, with you there is no wrong,

together we shall go until we die. My, my, my.

Inspiration is what you are to me, inspiration, look… see.

And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles,

Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one.

Happiness, no more be sad, happiness….I’m glad.

If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you.

When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me.

We will play this when we get married.

Post-Valentine’s Post (Part 1)

Some dates to remember:

P’s birthday - February 18th, a Thursday

Valentine’s Day - February 14th, a Sunday

I went out for dinner with my friend Fhebie Saturday night last week. I also took it as the perfect opportunity to look for a birthday present for P, probably also Valentine present if you count that too.

I actually already had the perfect present in mind, but I just couldn’t find it.

Late last year, P bought a late 2008 Macbook Pro that he’d been saving up for. For his Christmas present, I bought him a Belkin Ceylon Messenger Bag for when he needed to go out with the laptop.

He still needed a sleeve, though, for storing the laptop at home. The bag is great and all, but still too bulky to leave on top of a desk. He has been eyeing the Tucano Microfiber Second Skin sleeve, which we’d seen at a PowerMac store in Megamall, but was too cheap to buy it.

Met Fhebie at Greenbelt 3, which fortunately also carried said sleeves, even if they only had two left. Did my gift-shopping in less than two minutes, hah! Fastest time yet. Haha.

A laptop sleeve is admittedly not the most romantic present to give your boyfriend, but we are practical. And he loved it!

Besides, the present still had a romantic air to it: I bought it in RED.

P was so excited to open his gift, that he didn’t even pause to admire the gift-wrapping, which I had done at Karton. I took a photo after he opened it:

If I only had enough money, I’d give him presents all the time. <3

I am supposed to be saving up for a wedding/LASIK, but what the heck am I doing buying things online left and right?!

Ugh.

Comprehension much?

I was interested to bid on an item on eBay.com, but the seller had put a restriction on it—only users registered in the US can bid. Boo. I was very interested, and figured that maybe I could ask her to lift the restriction for me, if I’d asked nicely.

ME: I am interested to bid on your item. Even though I am not from the US, I was planning to have it shipped to a mail forwarder in California, who will then ship it to me in the Philippines. Would it be possible to make an exception for me in this case?

SELLER: As long as the address in Cali is legitimate and I receive payment through Paypal within the 3 days, there shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t ship to the Philippines.

ME: The problem is that I am not registered in the US. So I can’t bid on your item, hence the request for possible exception.

SELLER: Sorry, I don’t ship out of US. Thanks for asking.

Meh. It’s not worth the trouble anymore. That item lost its appeal pretty fast.
